STANDARD NF EN 13374: Standard NF EN 13374 C specifies the requirements and testing methods relating to temporary peripheral guardrails designed for use during construction or maintenance work on buildings and other structures. It applies to peripheral guardrails for flat and inclined surfaces, and specifies the requirements relating to three classes of temporary peripheral guardrails (A, B and C). Scaffolding on consoles falls under the application scope of standard EN 13374 C.

CHOOSING YOUR SCAFFOLDING Scaffolding on consoles is particularly suited to work on frames and roofing. The model choice depends mostly on the nature and type of work. The choice of attachment depends on the nature of the work (new build or renovation), roof space accessibility (or inaccessibility), the type of walls involved, etc.

REMINDER OF SAFETY MEASURES At no point during assembly should the operator find themselves in a dangerous situation. We recommend assembling it with an access platform, the operator being equipped with a harness connected to the said platform. If the assembly uses a ladder, the operator must be belayed with a harness connected to an anchor point, with a safety hook (NF EN 517) or a facade anchor (NF EN 795). You always need to check that the host structure is in a condition suitable for receiving scaffolding. EQUIPMENT CONTROL Visually inspect the condition of the material before each use. Replace any damaged elements. Check that there are no pins missing. Scaffolding monitoring must be logged in a record. TRAINING, AN OBLIGATION Decree No. 2004-924 of 1st September 2004 imposes "training in the use of working equipment provided for temporary work at heights" on professionals. Scaffolding on consoles are part of this equipment and training in their use is mandatory.

The standard EN 13374 C is more exacting and restrictive. It only responds to a dynamic test which consists of leaving a 75 kg cylinder to roll down a 5 m ramp inclined at 60°. The guardrail complies with the standard if it withholds the cylinder.
