GENERAL INFORMATION AND RECOMMENDATIONS

EN 13374: TEMPORARY PERIPHERAL GUARDRAILS Standard EN 13374 defines the minimum geometric requirements and resistance for temporary guardrails. There are three distinct classes based on the slope of the structure and the height of the roof slope.

HOOKS

Principle of the standard testing for temporary guardrails Class A Standard EN 13374 Class A responds to static deviation tests. The guardrail must support:  .A max. 200 mm deflection under a static vertical load of 125 kg.  . A maximum movement of 55 mm under a horizontal static load of

30 kg and having an elastic return.  A static lateral load of 20 kg with elastic return.

SNOWSTOPS

Class B Standard EN 13374 Class B responds to the Class A static deviation tests and to two low-intensity dynamic tests:  .Drop from 2.25 m of a 50 kg sandbag which has hit the bottom of the guardrail.  Drop from 1 m of a 50 kg sandbag which has hit the top of the guardrail. In both cases, the bag must be stopped by the guardrail. Class C Standard EN 13374 (July 2013) Class C responds to high dynamic tests:  Drop from 5 m at a 60° incline of a 75 kg roller which has hit the guardrail at the distance of 200 mm above the work surface.  Drop from 5 m at a 60° incline of a 75 kg roller which has hit the centre, halfway between the guardrails, at a distance of 200 mm above the work surface. In both cases and without replacing the equipment between 2 tests, the roller must be stopped by the guardrail.
